Federico Mompou (1893 - 1987) werd geboren in Barcelona, studeerde en leefde in Parijs, maar zou het grootste deel van zijn leven rustig in zijn geboortestad doorbrengen. De gelegenheid om lessen te volgen onder Fauré, door hem zeer bewonderd, werd bijvoorbeeld verijdeld door Mompou's bovenmatige verlegenheid.
